This chapter illustrates the use of the 3D Euclidean distance
transformation in two registration applications. First, we
introduce the need for data fusion and registration in medical
imaging, and briefly review the main approaches to the problem.
Then, in the first application, we show how to find the best
rigid-transformation from an MR image to the physical space. In
the second application, a computerized brain atlas is warped into
a patient's MRI using a parameterized second degree
transformation.
