Short biography

Thierry Sartenaer was born in Namur (Belgium) in 1974. He received the Electrical Engineering degree and the Ph. D. degree from the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL), Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, in 1997 and 2004, respectively.

In 1997-98, he was a communications engineer at Alcatel ETCA (Charleroi, Belgium). From September 1998 until September 2004, he was teaching assistant in the Electrical Engineering Department of the UCL. At the same time, he was pursuing a Ph.D. degree within the Communications and Remote Sensing Laboratory (TELE).

The topic of his Ph.D. thesis was "Multiuser Communications over Frequency-Selective Wired Channels and Applications to the Powerline Access Network".

In 2005, he was recipient of the Alcatel-Bell Scientific Award , from the Belgian NSF, for his contribution in the field of powerline communications.

In October 2005, he joined the DSL expert team of Alcatel Alenia Space ETCA (Charleroi, Belgium), where he works in collaboration with Alcatel Bell (Antwerp, Belgium). Alcatel is one of the world leading equipment manufacturers in the field of xDSL applications.

Research

My research interests are in the fields of communication theory, joint detection, timing synchronization, wired channel modeling, and multiuser information theory.

The target applications are powerline communications and DSL technology (ADSL/VDSL).

Ph. D. Thesis
